Famous Face Friday: Paul Hollywood
In 2014 we welcomed Paul Hollywood - host of The Great British Bake Off, and a massive motoring enthusiast - to the Run. He took part on the National Motor Museum's 1904 De Dion Bouton. The celebrity baker got the Run off to a good start when he was 'sandwiched' between Olympians Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Ben Ainslie for the traditional tearing of the red flag before the cars set off.
Did the event 'rise' to meet his expectations? We think it did - it looks as if he felt it deserved one of those famous Hollywood handshakes:
"I’ve always wanted to do the Run ever since my granddad used to talk about it, I’ve got a real passion for cars and taking this trip with lots of other people who also clearly have a similar passion is something really, really special. Just seeing all these veteran cars going through the heart of London is spectacular. The run was absolutely exhilarating, particularly getting to the top of some of the hills and even tearing past a few people. The marshals, public and volunteers are fantastic people and we were cheered on throughout. You get a real sense of achievement when you finish.”
