Opportunity knocks with Maltese motoring history

The first two cars ever to set tyres on Malta have entered this year’s 2022 RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (Sunday 6 November), raising urgently needed funds for repairs to the roof of the historic St Paul's Cathedral in the island’s capital, Valetta. Both cars – a Siddeley 6HP and Model B Cadillac – first arrived on Malta in 1904 and were at one time the property of Maltese Royalty. Appropriately the pair of pioneers were registered number 1 and number 2 – surely two of the shortest, simplest and earliest registration plates ever officially issued.

Two 'money CAN buy' opportunities...

Today the Siddeley and Cadillac are in the safe hands of local resident and veteran car owner/enthusiast David Arrigo. And now he is generously offering a pair of special ‘guest’ passenger seats aboard each of his wonderfully restored entries to the highest bidders with all the proceeds raised going directly to St Paul’s.

With bids starting at a minimum of £5,000, Arrigo is not only offering rarely available rides aboard a remarkable pre-1905 horseless carriage on the hallowed route from Hyde Park to Madeira Drive but also VIP experiences for all four guests.

The two money-can-buy packages includes a pair of nights of luxury accommodation at The Corinthia Hotel in Westminster prior to the Run, plus a final Sunday night at The Grand at Brighton.

Moreover, successful bidders will also enjoy a privileged run-up to Sunday’s departure with admission to a number of auctions and participants’ events  organised in the immediate build-up to this year’s staging of the world’s longest running and most evocative motoring event.
