RM Sotheby’s Virtual Veteran Car Run 2020
Commemorate the world’s longest-running motoring event wherever you are on Sunday 1 November
We are calling upon all owners of eligible pre-1905 cars to celebrate with the veteran car community worldwide in the RM Sotheby’s Virtual Veteran Car Run.
We appreciate the great deal of effort and investment you have made in preparing for this year’s Run and are grateful for your generous support of this unique event in such extraordinary times. While the event could not run in its original form, we have a wonderful opportunity for you to commemorate the Emancipation Run on Sunday 1 November 2020 and fly the flag for those pioneering motorists who blazed a trail from London to Brighton in 1896.
There are no hard and fast rules to taking part in the Virtual Run; it is entirely up to you – just be imaginative, stay safe and enjoy yourself. Here are some suggestions:
- Simply take your car out for a drive on Sunday 1 November – whether it’s a short pootle to pick up the papers or something more energetic – just share the passion of driving a veteran car and mark the Run
- If you are not able to take to the road – dress up to the nines with your period outfits and go for a walk and then return for a well-deserved long lunch
- During lunch take part in the RM Sotheby’s Veteran Car Run Quiz and adorn the table with veteran car memorabilia or even have lunch in your car – anything goes, really
- And, after lunch, what better way than to curl up on the sofa and join Wendy, Alan, Rosalind and Ambrose for our all-time favourite number one movie, Genevieve!
Share as much of your Virtual Run as you’d like with us and we’ll be on standby throughout Sunday 1 November to share your photos and videos with the veteran car community and, indeed, the whole world via the Run’s social media channels.
There are some superb prizes available to all those sharing their content with us, and we’ll kickstart the day by tearing the Red Flag outside the Royal Automobile Club at dawn.
We would love you to share images of your veteran cars taking to the road or images of you all dressed up for a Sunday lunch, raising a toast to the great traditions of the Run. Details of how to share your content on the day are detailed here and we’ll be in contact with details on how to download the Veteran Car Run Quiz.
Now for the Prizes
We have some fantastic prizes on offer to encourage you to share your day – and don’t forget we’ll be looking for those imaginative pictures and video that best epitomises the spirit of the Run – good luck!

Entry Form
Please don’t be tempted to drive along the traditional route of the Run or congregate with other veteran cars that could encourage gatherings and please only take part where it’s safe to do so. The decision to cancel this year’s RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run has been made in respect of the escalating COVID-19 situation and Government restrictions, and it’s in the interests of public health that we all play our part.
